On Wednesday before practice we talked about the importance of learning to do good bottom turns. They set up all the other maneuvers you do and put you in the right part of the wave to do good turns. Here’s a 2 shot sequence of Dutch Drinco showing us how it all works!

He’s right in the middle of his bottom turn, edge is set well into the wave face (note the spray coming off his rail) and he’s looking at the part of the wave he wants to go up and hit.

The bottom turn projects him up the wave face and he hits it at just the right time with plenty of speed & power to get half his board above the lip. Nice job Dutch. Practice those bottom turns boys.

We’re getting a group to go to this on Saturday. We’ll meet in the Muirlands parking lot at 9:15am and be back around 2pm. Bring $$$ for lunch and $5 for admission. EVERY PRACTICE WILL START OFF WITH A 5 MINUTE TEAM MEETING ON THE BEACH. WE’LL TALK ABOUT IMPROVING YOUR SURFING, MAP OUT THE PRACTICE AND COVER ANY OTHER SURF TEAM STUFF GOING ON.
YOU CANNOT START PRACTICING UNTIL YOUR FORM AND $125 ARE TURNED IN. BRING THEM WITH YOU TO PRACTICE.
It’s a half day so we are going to charge!! We are going to Blacks. We’ll meet in front of the gate (NOT the glider port) at the intersection of La Jolla Farms Road and Blackgold Road at 12:45 and be back up at 4:45pm. Post a comment below if you can go.
